The Evolution of the Founditz Tag
The concept of the Founditz Tag was started by Carol & Mike - the Bubbixs.
They both got hooked on geocaching through their involvement in Scouting. GPS technology was being taught to Leaders and Youth at various camps, jamborees and events. It is a natural for Scouting... get the kids outdoors on a high tech scavenger hunt.
Carol, Mike and friend Mark (Gopherit) found their first geocache less than 1 km from their home. Now whenever they travel, one of the first things to do before getting in the car is to see how many geocaches are close to the destination. On one trip some 250 miles away we searched for a geocache in a park. Frustration set in when we just couldnt find the elusive cache. Mike's GPS was an older monochrome model that was only accurate to 2 decimal places so we could be up to 10 meters away from the cache. Determination set in so we went off to find a more accurate and more up-to-date GPS. We happened to find one on sale in a local hardware/automotive store. We returned to the scene of the geocache area. This time the newer GPS directed us to the playground in the park where we eventually found the cleverly hidden cachebox. Inside was a wondrous assortment of geocoins, goodies and swag. It was then that we decided to create our own ID tags - since we do own a company specializing in corporate branding products...
The next step was to come up with a name - hence "Founditz" was born. We are in this for fun and we thought that geocachers worldwide would also enjoy distributing their own unique calling cards or "Founditz" tags.
